On the 16th anniversary of the establishment of "International Chinese Language Day," the Confucius Institute of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman successfully held a series of activities themed "Chinese as a Bridge, Cultural Integration" on its Open Day, with the guidance and support of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia. In line with the global theme of the 2025 International Chinese Language Day, "Chinese: A Gift Across Time and Space," four sub-themes were specially set up, attracting more than a hundred teachers, students, and local residents to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture.
The Beauty of Calligraphy: A calligraphy workshop was held, inviting calligraphy teachers to guide participants in writing beautiful messages on bookmarks to promote the beauty of Chinese characters. It attracted many calligraphy enthusiasts to write with brushes.
The Magic of Literature: An exhibition on the origin and evolution of Chinese characters was held. The event received more than 200 books, including textbooks, teaching aids, picture books, and monographs from Beijing Language and Culture University Press. A "Beijing Language and Culture University Press Bookshelf" was set up to provide a space for local residents to read Chinese books.
The Richness of Culture: Through traditional cultural experience activities such as paper-cutting, Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing), lacquer fans, and tea art, participants were immersed in the profound Chinese culture. The making of lacquer fans allowed participants to experience the ingenuity of traditional craftsmanship. The wearing of Hanfu and explanations of etiquette enhanced the understanding of traditional Chinese clothing culture. Paper-cutting art showcased the ingenious thinking of Chinese folk art. Tea art performances and experiences enabled guests to feel the profoundness of Chinese tea culture while tasting tea.
The Path of Civilization: The event invited well-known Chinese and Malaysian experts and scholars in the field of international Chinese language education to focus on new concepts and methods. They deeply interpreted the reference framework for international Chinese language education in China and explored the use of digital and intelligent technologies to improve the quality of Chinese language teaching and achieve modernization in Chinese language education. They also discussed how to promote high-quality development of Chinese language education in Malaysia.
The series of activities of the International Chinese Language Day concluded successfully in a joyful atmosphere. It further promoted understanding and integration between different cultures and showcased the unique charm of Chinese as a world language. The Confucius Institute of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman will continue to be committed to promoting international Chinese language education and cultural exchanges, allowing "Chinese as a Bridge" to connect language learners and cultural enthusiasts from all over the world.
