On the afternoon of September 19th, Mr. Du Zexun, a specially-appointed professor of the Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education, Dean of Shandong University, and a doctoral supervisor, was invited by the School of Chinese Language and Literature to make an academic lecture named "Bibliography: Method and Practice" in the No.414 recording and broadcasting room of Houde Building in our university.
Professor Du Zexun unfolded his lecture from the following three aspects: "combing historical materials--the evolution of Min Ziqian's story, textual research on historical data--Xi Ke‘s mission to the State of Qi, version collation-"Zhou Yi Zhu Shu essay". The historical evolution of the story of Min Ziqian was well told by the detailed collection of relevant materials. Through the comparison between the "Three Biographies of Chunqiu", "Chunqiu", and "Records of Great Historians in China", it reveals the relationship between "Chunqiu" and "Three Biographies of Chunqiu", and the characteristics of "Records of Great Historians in China". It shows the importance of proofreading methods and bibliography knowledge. The lecture also briefly discussed the research objects of bibliography, some projects of bibliography compilation, and some future ideas concerning these issues. The lecture closely revolves around the main idea of "bibliographical methods and practices". It is rich in examples, well-analyzed, far-sighted, paying more attention on the details, handling the complicated issues with ease, and illuminating. It shows the relationship between academic studies and bibliography, and the importance of bibliographical knowledge, and it gives us inspiration about methodologies.
