On April 23, Ms. Li Yan, director of the Chinese teaching and research section, Culture and Language Studies department, Renison University College, the University of Waterloo, the Canadian Dean of the Confucius Institute at the University of Waterloo, and a Chinese writer, was invited to our university to hold an academic lecture.

At seven o'clock in the evening, Ms. Li gave a report entitled "Bethune in the Fog of History" to the teachers and students of the School of Literature and Journalism in Lecture hall 347 of Bowen Building. Starting with the source of her book "Traveling All the Way," Li Yan introduced her years' research on Bethune's lifetime in Canada, her discovering work of Bethune's relics, and her active promotion of Sino-Canadian cultural exchanges. Her carding and interpretation made the present teachers and students shocked in heart, and also make the teachers and students produce a deep understanding of heroes, beliefs and idealism. Li Yan also put forward insightful opinions on literary translation strategies from her bilingual writing experience.

In addition, as a senior teacher who had been teaching the Chinese language and Chinese history and culture overseas for many years, Li Yan also shared, by warmly exchanging with the present students, her rich experience about Chinese characters and grammar in Chinese teaching with students of Chinese International Education of the School of Literature.
